Castlefield Estates

We’ve got a lot of
history in Castlefield.

There’s no where in Manchester like it and it’s bursting with history behind all the iconic, industrial character.

Going all the way back to Roman times, there’s been discoveries of temples, altars and the Mamucium Fort which has been partly reconstructed. In medieval times, it housed a headquarters during the ‘Siege of Manchester’. When the Bridgewater Canal arrived in Castlefield in 1761, around the time the industrial revolution kicked off and the iconic, red-brick warehouses were built.

During the 20th century, both canal and railway transport declined and the area became somewhat derelict until becoming a conservation area in the 1980s. These days Castlefield is home to sandstone cliffs, beautiful bridges and restored warehouses.
